Position Summary

The Workforce Development Project Manager will be responsible for supporting and fulfilling the initiative’s long term commitment to addressing workforce needs. 


The Workforce Development Project Manager must be an individual with experience in labor-management programs. The ideal candidate is self-managed and has the ability to align organizations to support employers and unions to customize job training and apprenticeship programs. This job involves both short- and long-term programs that inspire, educate and attract audiences from all walks of life. 

The Workforce Development Project Manager (PM) will be required to collect and analyze metrics from work experiences and digital research. This individual coordinates activities between multiple projects to ensure they align with the organization’s goals. 


The PM will work in close collaboration with a wide range of external stakeholders, including employers and industry consortia, unions and labor councils, training providers, secondary and post-secondary education staff, and apprenticeship employers and other government agencies from all over the country. The successful candidate will bring significant strategic leadership, project management, organizational, interpersonal skills to the table.


This position is currently hybrid.


You will:

The Workforce Development Project Manager will be responsible for overseeing the work outlined below. While these are core duties for the role, the Workforce Development Project Manager is not limited to performing what is captured here; we think growth and innovation are good. You should too!


  • Perform outreach and contact appropriate employers to promote the hiring of The Application members.
  • Serve as liaison for industry-related internships, externships, pre-apprenticeship and apprenticeships; maintain contact and follow-up with internship and apprenticeship staff.
  • Source and recruit qualified employers through various channels to create profiles and post on The Application job board.
  • Identify and engage potential employers for our mock interview program through targeted outreach and networking efforts.
  • Provide assistance to employers in developing pre-apprenticeship and apprenticeship programming and applications, work schedule processes, related technical instruction and mentoring plans for establishing apprenticeship career pathways.
  • Encourage all program participants to prepare and apply for apprenticeship opportunities.
  • Oversee and assist with record keeping, reporting, and data collection as required for internal database and external funder requirements, maintaining the integrity and confidentiality of all client and member data.
  • Responsible for employer recruitment, mentor training and fostering mentor-mentee relationships between participants, their employer, and community support networks.
  • Conduct individual and group training sessions for employers, mentors, pre- apprentices, and apprentices utilizing career and job readiness topics to foster skill development.
  • Assist with the coordination and tracking of pre-apprenticeship and apprenticeship placement efforts with employers.
  • Assist with organizing, planning, and executing events in support of apprenticeship awareness, development, retention, and work readiness.
  • Contact employers post apprenticeship as needed to request employment verification.
  • Prepare all documentation required by the department, including forms, tracking spreadsheets, client work plans, case notes, job development and referral logs, etc.
  • Provides data and reports to the supervisor to ensure efforts are leading to employment. 
  • Assist in the development of professional development curriculums related to the industry. 
  • Assist in the development of an industry, occupation, and apprenticeship resource development

Successful candidates for this role will have a mix of the below experience, education, and skills. We are flexible in considering your background but want to ensure that you have the tools to thrive! Please review and make sure that your skill set aligns with:


  • A bachelor’s degree or a minimum of two years of college coursework (associate degree) in psychology, education, social work, vocational or other allied and appropriate fields and at least two years experience in social agencies or human resources. 
  • Appropriate experience (sales, job development, Career Services and or Counseling) and/or special training may be substituted in lieu of a college degree.
  • Experience with paid work-based learning, pre-apprenticeship, youth programming and/or Registered Apprenticeship programs preferred.
  • Knowledge of labor markets, careers, and job search techniques preferred..
  • Demonstrated ability to meet customer needs, problem solve and collaborate with
  • others.
  • Proficient in MS Office applications (especially MS Word and Excel). 
  • Willingness to learn about The Application specific database(s).
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills including resume and cover letter writing, public speaking, presentation delivery, and email writing.
  • Excellent interpersonal, relationship management, and customer service skills.
  • Flexibility in work hours; ability to work evenings.
  • Participate in additional programmatic and agency-wide activities as assigned.
  • Experience with working with students of color
  • Manage and serve as a primary point of contact for all apprenticeship related information/ activities


You’ll receive:

We know our people are our most important asset. This position is contracted and will last from July 2024 to February 2024. The salary is $50,000.
