Full Job Description:

The Foundation

We are the largest nonprofit fighting poverty, disease, and inequity around the world. Founded on a simple premise: people everywhere, regardless of identity or circumstances, should have the chance to live healthy, productive lives. We believe our employees should reflect the rich diversity of the global populations we aim to serve. We provide an exceptional benefits package to employees and their families which include comprehensive medical, dental, and vision coverage with no premiums, generous paid time off, paid family leave, foundation-paid retirement contribution, regional holidays, and opportunities to engage in several employee communities. As a workplace, we’re committed to creating an environment for you to thrive both personally and professionally.

The Team

The Philanthropic Partnerships Team’s (PPT) mission is to inspire and enable more informed and intentional generosity by all. Research has shown that generosity is a universal human impulse, but there is nothing natural about giving at scale or ensuring that philanthropic resources are channeled where they are needed most. PPT's strategy aims to close intent-to-action gaps and to increase giving that advances equity. PPT serves as a resource to those who want to achieve more with their giving and invests in organizations that help donors overcome common obstacles. We support programs that provide donors with resources to make informed decisions about giving, encourage innovations and policies that enable philanthropy, and support cultural norms around generosity.

Our mission includes a commitment to advance equity around the world. We care deeply about how your experiences have shaped your understanding of philanthropy and advancing equity, and how they can help us achieve our mission. In applying for this role, we encourage you to think about the breadth and depth of your resume and add any information that would help us understand your personal and professional experiences related to our mission. This includes direct work in advocacy and community organization, social work, public policy, justice, or lived experience and/or education in any of these areas.

Your Role

As Senior Program Officer, Giving by All & Partner Engagement, you will lead PPT’s efforts to celebrate and encourage everyday giving with a focus on giving to racial and gender equity. You will also be responsible for leading a partnership strategy that engages intermediaries, sector organizations, and philanthropic support groups in adopting practices that strengthen the giving ecosystem and support our goals. As part of this engagement strategy, you will serve as project lead for the Greater Giving Summit (GGS) – a high-profile gathering of partners devoted to everyday giving – and a year-round virtual community of GGS participants. You will drive the strategy for a portfolio of grants which seed and scale new solutions for promoting everyday giving to racial and gender equity, and, working with our communications team, you will back campaigns and narratives which encourage giving. You will need to be an exceptional collaborator, have a strong commitment to and competence with issues of equity and justice, and possess deep subject-matter expertise in charitable giving and partnerships.

What You’ll Do

  • Strategy and Planning: Lead the overall development, execution, and measurement of the Giving by All initiative. Secure ongoing agreement for the strategy from team, division, and Foundation leaders.
  • Partnerships and Influence: Lead the development, execution, and measurement of a partner engagement strategy focused on influencing key partners (giving intermediaries, infrastructure groups, policy and advocacy groups, and other industry partners) in service to our team’s goals.
  • Convening and Community: Drive the strategy, execution, and outcomes for the bi-annual Greater Giving Summit and a virtual community of participants. Direct consultant and vendor teams to assist with event and community management.
  • Grant and Investment Management: Conceptualize, implement, and lead a complex portfolio of grants and performance-based contracts. Consult with grantees and other partners to increase impact of projects and ensure grants are meeting goals. Provide operational guidance, convene grantees, and serve as a trusted advisor.
  • Cross-Functional Engagement: Work with others on the sub-team and PPT to promote a stronger giving ecosystem. Consult with and provide support to PPT’s global teams (primarily in China and India) to promote everyday giving. Partner with PPT’s ultra-high-net-worth team as appropriate. Serve as an expert for others in the Foundation on issues related to philanthropy.
  • External Engagement: Represent the foundation to key external constituencies, events, committees, etc. and serve as a trusted voice and advocate in the field for our work.

Your Experience

  • Advanced degree with 7+ years of experience or equivalent experience preferred
  • Demonstrated track record of thought leadership and innovation in the philanthropic / charitable giving sector.
  • Significant exposure to issues related to the practice of philanthropy, with an emphasis on the everyday givers segment of the market, the operations of charities, donor behavior and/or digital products to advance everyday giving.
  • Established track record of strategic influence; fostering engagement with and catalyzing behavioral change among partners.
  • Sincere commitment to equity; deep understanding of current DEI issues in philanthropy and giving.
  • Proven ability to work in complex, multi-stakeholder, or matrixed organizations, and to collaborate effectively with a diverse range of voices and functions.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, able to effectively synthesize information to reach diverse audiences and build consensus.
