History

In 1908 the Wrights got a contract to make a single aircraft for the U.S army. The wrights also licensed their patent to allow Astra Company to manufacture aircraft in France. Univeristy of Michigan was the first to offer collegiate aeronautics program in the United States in 1914. The National Advisory Committee for Aeronautics was established in May 1915 as one of the national government funding testing laboratories. The United States currently has the world's largest aerospace industrial complex. The industry is one of the most severely regulated industries in the world.
